Coffee Festival!

Subject: Volunteer Opportunity - can you pass it on?

Morning Emily,

I hope all is well and you had a stellar weekend. I was wondering if you could forward this email to the AC in the office for me... :) Thanks!

Hi all,

I am working on another project in Seattle and wanted to spread the word to those of you who may be interested in volunteering for Northwest Coffee Festival!

The Northwest Coffee Festival will be held in the Fisher Pavilion at Seattle Center with espresso bars, slow-pour coffee bars, live music (it will get funky!), educational presentations and hands-on demonstrations in coffee. With several of Seattle's favorite chocolate dessert companies and savory food chefs in the festival there will be great foods to taste as well as exceptional coffees. The festival will feature a NW Beer, Wine, and Cider garden for the 21+ folks.

Rest assured, this festival will not be a pretentious presentation of coffee, but rather a celebration of community - with an emphasis on local goodness and hard-working farmers from several different coffee-producing regions. The festival will also be donating proceeds to 3 non-profit organizations: Water1st International; SeaChar; and PROVAIL.

And you know how much I support good 'ol volunteerism, so please sign up for shift and attend the festival free of charge. To make it as easy as possible, you can sign-up a few different ways:

AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) is a 10-month, full-time, team-based residential program for men and women ages 18 to 24 years of age who want to get ahead and leave their mark on society. NCCC is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering.

Want a Team to Help YOU?

NCCC teams, made up of 9–12 members, address needs related to our 5 focus areas: NATURAL AND OTHER DISASTERS, INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AND CONVERSATION, ENERGY CONSERVATION, AND URBAN AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT.

These dedicated and energetic young adults, trained in CPR, first aid, disaster response and wildland firefighting (each year a percentage of eligible members are trained as Type II Firefighters), spend their service term helping citizens, preparing for/responding to natural and other disasters, and serving communities by constructing and rehabilitating housing, building trails, cleaning up streams, and addressing other pressing local needs through direct service.

Rounds typically last six to eight weeks. Project sponsors can be nonprofit and faith-based organizations, government

entities (federal, state, and local), public and private schools and universities, and Native American Tribal Councils.

Hi Andy and Patrick,

How are you both? Busy I am sure! I know you have been busy, Andy. Great job last week on the BAT. You are the BEST Events Coordinator around!

I have been working with Cleveland High School in Seattle on a service learning project. For two weeks in August  the students will be training with the Pipefitters Union for a week and with the Seattle affiliate for a week.

The Seattle School District has a grant for these activities and includes money to hire two VISTA positions. I  believe the positions start in June. Do either of you  have any AmeriCorps or VISTA past or present who might be interested in the positions? They would be working with me to create curriculum materials and help August 8 through August 12th at Cleveland High School with hands on construction projects.

Please let me know if you know of anyone who might be interested in these positions.

Thanks so much!

Margie
