PLU's Center for Community Engagement and Service


We are in the process of recruiting a full-time AmeriCorps Intern who will help connect PLU with Franklin Pierce School District during the 2012-2013 academic year. We are looking for someone who relates well with vulnerable kids and college students and who is committed to engaging the local community. The position will be based out of PLU's Center for Community Engagement and Service and will have considerable overlap with the PLU School of Education and Movement Studies and three local elementary schools.

UWKC is seeking a Manager, Basic Needs Program who will be responsible for developing strategies that will increase the economic stability of low income people in King County, Washington.  The primary focus of the position is developing strategies that will increase utilization of the Earned Income Tax Credit, Basic Food Program (SNAP) and other public benefits among eligible people. 

This position is responsible for designing, managing, evaluating, and improving all elements of United Way’s Free Tax Preparation and Bridge to Basics Programs.  The position is responsible for the mobilization and training of community partners and 650 volunteers, and serves as a liaison between United Way and community partners, funders, and customers.  He/she is responsible for the execution of marketing and outreach efforts; ensuring compliance with all IRS VITA Program policies; hiring and managing up to 20 seasonal staff; producing internal and external campaign reports and supervising Basic Needs Coordinator and temporary staff.  In coordination with the Basic Needs Team, he/she will develop and implement a multi-year plan to increase the impact and sustainability of these programs and making recommendations about future Basic Needs programs and investments. 

We are looking for someone who possesses excellent coordination, organization, volunteer management, data and time management skills; strong communications (verbal and written) skills and presentations skills required; highly proficient with MS office programs; prior knowledge of tax preparation law and/or software desirable; willingness and ability to become proficient in using TaxWise software and obtain IRS tax certification at the "Intermediate" level or above within 2 months of employment; demonstrated experience writing and managing grants; and ability to adapt to change to accommodate workload. 

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree specializing in Business Administration, basic tax accounting training, social science or a related field; three to five years’ experience in community  engagement/organizing; program and volunteer management or equivalent education and or/experience.

AmeriCorps National Direct position available
The HFHI's Women Build has an AmeriCorps National Direct position available. AmeriCorps National Direct is a one-year term of service that offers a small living allowance, health insurance, and volunteer housing. This position is located in Americus, Georgia. and responsibilities include:
  • Contacting 15 or more affiliates a month to sponsor training.
  • Conducting training sessions at five affiliates every month.
  • Travelling throughout the U.S. as often as two or three times a month.
  • Speaking engagements about Women Build.
